He is survived by: his wife Mary Tom Beckett Abernathy; his children, Annamarie Lasseter of Sylacauga and James Winston Abernathy Jr. of Sylacauga; his granddaughters, Asia Abernathy of Coupeville and Elizabeth Hubbard of Great Plain; and his sister Louise White Edwards. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.
