He was predeceased by: his parents, William Shafer and Dorothy Shafer; and his siblings, Margaret Shafer, Lillian Tonne and Gordon Shafer.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia A. Shafer; his children, Pippia Shafer and Mark Shafer (Susan); his grandsons, Christopher, Matthew and Quin; and his sister Mary Fulrath (Colin). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
