He was predeceased by: his wife Marcelle Byrd Gilmer; his sister Claire Marsh; and his parents, Stanton Gilmer and Dolly Burnett Gilmer. He is survived by: his children, Charles Gilmer, Jr. and Cassandra Gilmer Moore.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lamar County Humane Society at P.O. Box 534, Vernon, AL 35592.
