He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Hunter; his parents, Lenard Hunter and Lucille Hunter; his granddaughter Karla Ann Hunter; and his sister Jean Johnson.

He is survived by: his sons, Richie Hunter and Rodney Hunter; his granddaughters, Felicia Blevins and Jennifer Little; and his siblings, Edward Hunter (Naomi), Jewel Hancock, Vonda Seale (Ernest), Lester Hunter (Sue) and Mattie Ray (David). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
