He was predeceased by: his son Van Sowell, Jr.; and his parents, Burie Woodrow Sowell and Lizzy Estelle Odom Sowell. He is survived by: his wife Linda Sowell; his children, Robin Sowell (Manuel Barrera), Jacob Sowell and Matthew Sowell; his brothers, Paul Sowell and Terry Sowell (Susan); his granddaughter Brittany Powell (Zach); and his great grandchild Scarlett Powell.
