He was predeceased by: his former wife Frances Hutton; his son Johnny Abernathy Jr.; his stepson-in-law Charles W. Sims; and his stepgreat-grandchild Dakota Hill. He is survived by: his wife Patsy Pepper; his sister Sarah Bell of McEwen; and his stepchildren, Jan Sims, Judy LaCaze, Connie Hill (Michael), Chris Pepper and Fred Pepper (Lynn).
