He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Keithley Smith; his children, Karen Miller (Tim) and David Bates; his grandchildren, Brittany Weston (Ryan), Andrew Bates and Ally Bates; his great grandchild Lillian Weston; and his sisters, Mary Smith Melton, Barbara Harris and Brenda Holder.
