He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Burge and Mattie Lee Burge; his sons, James Burge and Chris Burge; and his brother Ricky Burge.

He is survived by: his children, Sam Burge, Jr. (Kristine), Mechell Elam (Charles), Paul Lee Burge (Kris) and Shawn Burge; his daughters-in-law, Earline Burge and Christy Burge; and his sister Janie Hawk (Jackie). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
