She was predeceased by: her father Chester O. Stephens, Jr.; and her brother Chester Oliver Stephens, III. She is survived by: her husband James N. Hughes, Jr.; her children, Katherine H. Ellard (Samuel B.) and Pitt N. Hughes (Alyson); her grandchildren, Philip Pitt Hughes, Luke Oliver Hughes, Laura Steele Ellard, James Douglas Hughes, Samuel Blake Ellard, Jr. and Martha Anne Hughes; her sister Gladys Stephens Elliott (Jimmy); and her close friend Betty Jean Perry. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, close cousins.
