She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Steele and Willie Lee Steele; and her brothers, Thomas Steele, Eddie Steele and George Steele.
She is survived by: her sons, Herman James Givan (Jo Ella Flowers) and John Givan, Jr. (Cynthia Faye Givan) of Birmingham, AL; her grandchildren, Randall Givan, Danyall Givan, Jonathan Givan, Jordan Givan, Erica Craig, Monique James (Ralph James), Philip McDowell and Alexis McDowell; her great grandchild Aaron Gibson; and her sister Orethia Evans (Willie Joe Evans). She is also survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
