He was predeceased by: his parents, John Doston Coon, Sr. and Ethel Mae Coon; and his stepmother Frances Coon. He is survived by: his sister Eleanor Coon Nichols of Selma; his stepbrother William Richard Dailey of Fishers, Indiana.; his niece Rebecca Dailey Crull (Shawn) of New Palestine, Indiana; his nephews, Ben Nichols (Sydney) of Auburn, Jeff Nichols (Sherrie) of Alabaster and Pat Nichols (Brooke) of Springville; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Hope Nichols, Haley Nichols, John Allen Nichols (Lucy), Doston Nichols, Clayton Nichols, Brannon Crull and Alex Crull.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions to Elkdale Baptist Church in John's memory.
