He was predeceased by: his parents, J. C. Carter and Marie Carter; and his brother-in-law Thomas Tanton. He is survived by: his wife Helen Carter; his daughters, Jan Barrett (Allen), Dianne Cooper (Julian Smith) and Tricia Carter (Doug Stewart); his granddaughters, Ashley Goodman, Katie Cooper Dye (Adam) and Madison Church (Russell Golson); his great grandchild Sophie Goodman; his sister Dorothy Tanton; and his cousin Bobby Browning (Kathleen).
