He was predeceased by: his parents, James Leroy Nichols and Juliette Taylor of Virginia; and his brother John Stuart Nichols. He is survived by: his daughters, Angie Nichols and Jennifer Murphy; his grandchildren, Kaleigh Beard, Kyler Beard, Keaton Beard and Jordan Murphy; his great grandchildren, Bentley Murphy, Ma'Leigha Beard, Spencer Gofourth and Khalil Beard; his brother James Edward Nichols (Helen); his nephew Bradley Nichols; his niece Stephanie Swan; and his friend Lara Hatfield (Jeannie Nichols).
