He is survived by: his spouse Patricia Mitchell Messer; his children, Cecil "Jimmy" James Messer Jr. and Melissa Messer Jinright (Preston); his grandchildren, Holt Elijah and Hudson Jinright; and his siblings, Clyde Messer (Shirley), Mary Holder (Morris) and Sarah Gomez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
