He was predeceased by: his parents, James Mansel Cole Sr. and Fincher Cole; his siblings, Nola Cole Armor and Joe Wade Cole; and his stepmother Ina Jewel Cole.

He is survived by: his wife Nelda Cole; his daughters, Michelle Cole and Shirley Ann Motes; his grandchildren, Amanda Evans and Stone Cole Evans; and his nieces and nephews, Lola Mae Spear Bowman, Kelly Carey, Tonya Cole Houck (Bob), Tricia Dale Tinker (John), Gail Everett, Denise Sibley (Chris), Kenny Spear (Mary), Keith Spear (Sandra), James "Jimbo" Cole (Jennifer), Jamie Hutcheson (Laura), Jason Hutcheson (Kim) and Joseph Aday.
