He was predeceased by: his wife Diane B. Matthews; his parents, Harold E. and Lillie Edna Matthews; his brother Edward Matthews; and his stepdaughter Kim Powell Green.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lisa Matthews Bray of Saraland, AL and Deborah Schneider of Wilmer, AL; and his stepdaughter Tracy Powell Turner of Bonaire, GA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
