He is survived by: his children, DeWayne McCarthy and Karen McCarthy Morgan; his grandchildren, Alicia Powell and David A. Powell Jr.; and his siblings, Glen McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, Carolyn M. Mitchell, Shirley M. Killough and Janice M. Counts. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
