He was predeceased by: his wife Martha Smith Wheeler; his parents, Nolon Wheeler and Leslie Wheeler; his siblings, William, Doug Wheeler, Glenda Credeur and Kathryn Hitt Flannagan; and his brothers-in-law, Harlin Hitt (Shorty), Floyd Flannagan (Sonny) and Millard Copeland.

He is survived by: his children, Greg Wheeler (Sherrie), Joni Wheeler and Anna McCarley (Brian).
