He was predeceased by: his parents, John Jewel and Lena Sumerel (Kennedy); his siblings, John J. Sumerel, Jr. and Rosa Sumerel Snider; his nephews, John "Johnny" Sumerel and Jeffrey Snider; and his niece Carla Sumerel Mitchell.
He is survived by: his wife Bobbie Sue Taff Sumerel; his son James Keith "Jamie" Sumerel; his grandson Blake Pruitt; his brother Bobby W. Sumerel (Linda); his nephews, Michael Sumerel (Shannon), Wade Sumerel and Robert Sumerel; and his niece Patti Young.
