He was predeceased by: his wife Leadie Mae; his sons, Larry and Randy Tate; and his brothers, Everett and Loyce Tate.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Tisha Thomas (Ricky) and Ben Tate; his great grandchildren, Ashley Hairston (Jesse) and Alyssa Thomas; and his great great grandchild Mila Dean (Joyce James).
