He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Richard Bartley Hughes and Eva Sheehan Hughes; his son Lewis Young Hughes Junior; his grandson Lewis Todd Hughes; his wife Penny; his sisters, Betty Mosley of Bay Minette and Mary Coleman of Excel, Alabama.; his son Larry Hughes (Lynn) of Foley; his grandchildren, Dwayne, Daniel, Cassie, Tammy, Natalie and Zack; his daughter Deborah Robinson (Steve) of Foley; and his grandchildren, Michael, Shelly, Cameron and Chad Hughes of Mauriceville, Texas.. He was also cherished by numerous great grandchildren.
