He was predeceased by: his parents, James Pynes and Myrtle Pynes; and his former wife Laverne Pynes. He is survived by: his wife Estelle Pynes; his sons, Clayton Pynes (Hope) and Gary Pynes (Wanda); and his sisters, Mary Riley, Nell Brantley and Bernice Wiggins. He is also survived by three step-children and six step-grandchildren and seven great step-grandchildren.
