He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert B. Smart (Ruby S. Wilkinson) and Ruby S. Wilkinson; his siblings, Jean S. Rodgers, Martha S. Thomas and Donald Smart; and his in-laws, W. A. and Jewell McDaniel.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy M. Smart; his brother Rodrick Smart; his daughter Sandra Starnes (Danny); and his grandson Micah Starnes. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Collier Butler Funeral Home (824 Rainbow Dr, Gadsden, AL 35901). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 12:30 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to White Springs Baptist Church in Boyd's memory.
