He was predeceased by: his son Patrick Brooks; his grandson Little Donny; his siblings, Olin Ray Brooks, Jr. and Martine Simpkins; his brothers-in-law, John Reese and Hugh "Butch" McCain; and also Joseph Derivaux, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Patricia M. Brooks; his children, Rebecca Derivaux, Brig Gen and Michael Brian Brooks; his siblings, Ramona Reese and Paul Brooks (Kay); and his siblings-in-law, Joan Brooks, William H. Simpkins and Mike McCain (Joy).
