He was predeceased by: his former wife Janie Pauline Rainey Fortenberry; his wife Betty Ann Smart Fortenberry; his close friend Willie Ruth Bailey; his sons, Scott James Fortenberry and Marty Richard Fortenberry; his siblings, Hubert Fortenberry and Annie Mae Ford; and his parents, Charlie Fortenberry and Ruth Fortenberry.
He is survived by: his children, Janet Huey (Larry) of Jacksonville and Brian Fortenberry of Piedmont; and his siblings, Jimmy (Judy Fortenberry) of Piedmont, Eugene Fortenberry of Piedmont, Dorothy Pruitt of Piedmont, Irene Chandler of Piedmont, Hazel Davis of Piedmont and Shirley Adams of Newnan. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
