He was predeceased by: his parents, Hershel Dempsey and Panna Dempsey; and his sister Dawn Dempsey. He is survived by: his wife Kaye Verell Dempsey; his children, Andrew (Pam) and Holly Clonts; his grandchildren, Claudia, Ben Dempsey and Chandler Armstrong; and his pets, Buck and Lulu.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Piedmont First United Methodist Church or the Piedmont Benevolence Center.
