She was predeceased by: her mother Peggy Sue Brookshire Elkins. She is survived by: her children, Patrick Brookshire Sherer (Madison) of Birmingham and Presley Sherer Zessin (Tyler) of Florala; her husband James Robert Sherer III (Bob); her brothers, Cortney Johnson (Susan) of Trussville and Shawn Johnson of Chattanooga; and her father James (Johnson).
In lieu of flowers donations in Melanie's memory may be made to Pelham Oaks Elementary School.
