He was predeceased by: his parents, Patsy Ann Larimer McKay and Carl T. McKay, Sr.; and his brother Steve McKay. He is survived by: his wife Cherri McKay; his mother-in-law Margie Graham; his brother-in-law Bobby Graham; his daughters, Robin McDermond and Sarah Compton (Taylor); his grandsons, Benjamin and Cooper Compton; his siblings, Jim McKay (Karen), Carl T. McKay III (Sue), David Larimer, Mary Ann Corley (Billy Ray) and Sue Dunn (Doug); and his close friends, John Gilreath, Dean Richardson, Mike Gay, Traci Richardson (Todd), Jay Hoss and Pall. He is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews, and over 30 great nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 28th 2025 at 8:30 AM and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, January 28th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Jefferson Memorial Gardens East (1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235).
