He was predeceased by: his parents, William Hershel Yates and Mary Henning; his children, Rhonda and William Hershel Yates III; and his brother Otis Baker.

He is survived by: his wife Eunice Willhite Yates; his children, Randy Joe Yates (Mary), Andy Jae Yates (April) and Candy Sheryl Franklin; and his siblings, Mike Henning, Vicki Miller, Jenny Klinker and Harrietta Henning. He is also survived by 17 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
