He was predeceased by: his parents, George W. Phillips and Lillian "Dub" Phillips; his son Donald George Phillips; his wife Berit "Bea" Ofteness; his former wife Winnie Burt Phillips of Montgomery, Alabama.; and his siblings, Douglas Lunsford, Evans Lunsford, Dovie Slawson, Betty McCraney and Dorothy Adams.
He is survived by: his daughter Laurie Grantham (Jeff Grantham); his grandchildren, Sallie Wheeler (Ryan Wheeler), Jack Grantham (Elinor Grantham) and Betsy Grantham; his great grandchild Sophie Phillips Wheeler; his sister Elaine Casey; and his siblings-in-law, Jorunn Rose, Ove Ofteness and Tore Ofteness. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donation memorials may be made in memory of his nephew, Jay Adams, to Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360. .
