He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Mancil Sims and Zelma Ruth Hendrix Sims; and his siblings, Elisha Gaye Sims, Jesse Robert Sims, Mary Ann Sims Forbus, Eva Lou Sims and James Douglass Sims.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Gann Sims; his daughters, Rachel Sims O'Dell (Calvin) and Samantha Diane Sims Elkins; his grandsons, Marcus O'Dell (Nikki) and Ben Elkins; his great grandchild Kennedy O'Dell; his siblings, Willie Clarence Sims and Betty Ruth Crosson; and his brother-in-law Forbus.
