She was predeceased by: her husband James Leo McDowell; her parents, Calloway Payton and Neva Payton; and her siblings, Benny Payton, James Payton and Geraldine Payton.

She is survived by: her children, Denise McDowell and Doug McDowell (Linda); her grandchildren, Walter Evan Baker, Emily McDowell and Ryan McDowell; and her siblings, Helen Dibley, Calloway Payton Jr., Kenneth Payton, Robert Payton and Susan Wiggins. She is also survived by extended family members and friends.
