He was predeceased by: his wife Lillian Spears; his son Don Spears; his parents, Ellis Spears and Romer Spears; and his sisters, Sara White and Mildred Bright.

He is survived by: his son Tim Spears; his daughter-in-law Paula Spears; and his grandchildren, Tara Bradberry (Eric), Sara Spears, John Spears and Joshua Spears (Emily). He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
