He was predeceased by: his parents, William Homer and Adelaide Burkhalter. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Burkhalter; his children, Karen Patterson (Randy), Paul Burkhalter (Mary) and Eric Burkhalter; his grandchildren, Breanna Burkhalter and Luke Burkhalter; and his sisters, Sissie Noble (Bill) and Sharon Hamm (Paul).

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
