With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Samuel Sweatt Bailey (Opelika, Alabama), who passed away on October 7, 2023 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his mother Kathleen Bailey; and his former wife Beth. He is survived by: his wife Becky; his children, Sam Jr. (Debbie), Kathy, Rose Bufford (Hal), Dottie Plagman (Gary) and Glenn (Allene); his grandsons, Carson Steltonpohl (Jared), Alex Creel (Ben) and Gary Godwin (Patsy); and his close friends, Bill English, Albert Smith, Terry Adkins and Larry Magness.

“I knew Sam for 5 years while I was an Army Air Traffic Controller at Lawson AAF from 1968 - 1973. He loved to raise pure German Shepherds. He was a GREAT guy. We visited his home a few times. Sam was always congenial, polite and never raised his voice no matter what, Sam took care of our navigational aids and our radar equipment. I recall when he bought his (very earlier model) of the first handheld calculator, $99 back then, Both him and his wife were great folks. He will be missed! Bill Sly”
