He is survived by: his stepfather John Dean; his wife Terrie; his children, John Brown Jr., Crystal Lackey (Russell), April Hughes (David) and Gracie Brown; his sister Susan McGhar (James); and his niece Kim Ward (Jamey). He is also survived by five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
