He was predeceased by: his parents, Colvin Hughes and Jettie Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Sarah Sasser Hughes; his son Tim Hughes (Jennifer); his stepchildren, Todd Sasser (Donna) and Chris Sasser (Sharron); his brother Tom Hughes (Eudene); his grandchildren, Nathan Hughes (Morgan) and Alison Woodall (Marc); his stepgrandchildren, Taylor Janning (Joe), John Sasser, Kate Sasser, Logan Sasser, Will Sasser (Savannah) and Zac Zito (Diana); his great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Grayson Hughes, Keegan and Keely Woodall; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Claire, Mason Sasser and Luca Zito; and his parents-in-law, Betty Prescott, Sue Fields, Hal Smith, Martha Jo Dudley and Dallas Smith.
