She was predeceased by: her parents, Mattie Ruddell and Leslie Ruddell; her husband James Oliver Thomas (J. O.); her siblings, Frank Ruddell, Kate Bagley, Evelyn Ruddell and Broughton Ruddell; and her stepdaughter Faye Hall.

She is survived by: her brother Ford Ruddell (Martha) of Resaca; her stepdaughter Terry Farr (George) of Chattanooga; and her children, Nancy Ross (James) of Tunnel Hill, Greta Yandle (Bruce) of Opelika, David Thomas (Hallie Schodowsky) of Ashland and Mark Thomas (Bridget) of Dalton. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church.
