He was predeceased by: his former wife Ann Bellenger McConnell; his son Bradley Hill; his parents, Pat McConnell and Thelma McConnell; and his brother Pat McConnell Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Karen Self McConnell; his daughters, Angie Sogol (Joel), Alicia Blackmon (Clint), Mandy Brewer (Kevin) and Sandy Henderson; his grandchildren, Sam Sogol, Anna Sogol, Joseph Hill, CJ Blackmon, Reese Brewer and Lona Jo Henderson; and his sister Jenny Wells (Neil). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
