He is survived by: his wife Sarah Heaton McCay; his children, Kristi Smith (Douglas) and Joel Buford McCay, Jr. (Beth); his granddaughter Savannah Patterson; and his siblings, Rodger Dale McCay (Pauline) and Fretta Fendley (Freddie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
