“Cont'... The past years Mona had sold her home & Brett helped renovate his & his wifes basement so Mona wasnt alone dealing w/her COPD unattended. I wasnt able to get down to see Mona the past 2+ years because of our own family issues. I spoke w/her last, June 11th. When we talked Mona was painfully honest about she was getting weary & ready...I told her I would like to see her one more time before she goes, but I understood, and it was up to her. She knew I couldnt leave just yet. Mona-Miss You”

“Cont...I would watch her going from room to room w/o skipping a beat, or running over the hoses & cutting off her oxygen supply. Had it been me I would have been tangled in a knot consistantly. When I was there Mona made it out lije I was doing her a big favor just helping her & David take van trip anywhere...grocery store or whatever. What that woman had to deal w/on a daily bases is beyond my comprehension. Mona Loved her brothers. Always spoke well of them & bragged how they helped her.”

“Cont...Mona told me..."I smoked, I got COPD." That was the extent of it. We obviously didnt see each other often since we are in different States...but when I was in Alabama-Mona put me up (or i should say 'put up w/me'). Before Mona sold her house (after David passed) when I visited them, I remember Mona wheeling around the rooms in her wheel-chair attached to the stupid O2 machine...swinging those green tubes better than any cowboy tossing a rope. “Cont... Mona was x-miltary. So we had that in common. However we never let it get in the way of life. Mona cared for her Mom until she passed away. But not only that-Mona cared for her brother David who had Downs, until he passed away at 50. Think that was just family responsibilty? No way. Mona was diagnosed w/COPD several years prior. Talk about Strong Willed. Battling her issues I never remember her pointing a fist at God & blaiming Him for her circumstances. (cont' nxt)”

“Brett, Brian, & Henry...my deepest sympathy for your loss. Hope you still get to read this...Where do I begin? Mona was an extrodinary woman. I admired her. We met when we worked at the Army Depot. She was always playing Uno for lunch w/her collegues. Altho I hated cards I would watch & talk w/Mona as they played. We became friends in our 20's. She actually was my only friend at the Depot. I battled the prejudice in the South-Mona didnt have a prejudice bone in her body. (cont' nxt)”
