He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard "Smokey" Pennington and Audrey Mae Pennington; his siblings, Howard T. "Buddy" Pennington and Nina Jean Pennington; and his granddaughter Theresa Jaye Staggs.

He is survived by: his wife Jean Pennington; his children, Jackie Pennington (Alisha), David Pennington (Karen) and Patty Davis (Gary); and his sister Gayle Robinson (Ken). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
