He was predeceased by: his parents, C. W. Golden and Edrie Golden; and his brother Ed Scruggs. He is survived by: his wife Beverly Whitfield Golden; his daughters, Leigh Clemmons (Greg) and Laura Nelson (Michael); his grandchildren, Will Clemmons, Mitchell Clemmons, Miller Clemmons, Anna Clemmons, Austin Grant and Haley Nelson; his brother Billy Scruggs; and his cousin Eddie Wright.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Notasulga United Methodist Church.
