He was predeceased by: his wife Ellen Jean Woods Koontz; his parents, Duke Martin Koontz and Nora Lois Johnson Koontz; and his brother James David Koontz. He is survived by: his children, Kristy Lea Koontz Wolf (Greg), Debbie Delaine Koontz Kofman (Toby) and David Duane Koontz (Lisa); his sisters, Dorothy Frances Koontz Withrow and Evelyn Marie Koontz Esterman; and his grandchildren, Katie Wolf Crain (Jake), Becky Wolf, Mackenzie Wolf Gillen (Zach), Connor Wolf, Jacob Koontz, Ashlynn Koontz, Jonathan Koontz, Sierra Grace Koontz, Jae Snow and Cody Snow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Little Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 15131 Hurricane Drive, Brookwood, AL 35444.
