He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Edward Motes and Mary Elizabeth Steele; his grandson Alan Cole Clark; and his brothers, Billy Don Motes and Bobby Ray Motes.

He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Ann Motes; and his children, James Michael Motes, Vanessa M. Clark (Jeff) and Alyssa Brooke Motes. He is also survived by five grandchildren; one great grandson and numerous nieces & nephews.
