He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Ruth Lillian Holcomb Mears; and his children, John Holcomb Mears (Darleen), Thomas Anderson Mears (Ruth), Ellen Mears Duncan (Townes), Martha Mears Wells (Charles) and Katherine Mears O'Mary (Mark). He was also cherished by fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
