He is survived by: his wife Bonnie L. Merritt; his children, Michael Joseph Merritt (Betty), Gregory Warren Merritt (Terri) and Michelle Merritt Shelton (Wayne); and his grandchildren, Kristen Fielder, Kelly Trawick, Jimmy Baldwin, Tayler Woodruff, Michael Merritt, Jr., Keri Trousdale, Sarah Merritt and Teria Mosley.
