He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Elizabeth Johnson and William Andrew Tingle; and his sister Betty Burroughs. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Lea Tingle; his children, William Tingle and Martha Ann Graham; his stepsons, Jeremy Bartishofki and Tony Lea; his siblings, Rubye Cook, Myrtis Burroughs, Anne Bonner, Dorothy Beckham, Joyce Wood and Dale Tingle; and his mother-in-law Sally Sawyer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Easter Seals West Alabama, Community Soup Bowl or Hospice of West Alabama.
