She was predeceased by: her husbands, Leon Hughes and Zeno Stringfellow; her daughter Debra Stringfellow; her parents, Lena Spivey and Demp Spivey; and her siblings, Virginia Groves, Ike and Bill Spivey.

She is survived by: her son Larry Hughes; her granddaughter Elizabeth Hughes Varga; and her great grandchildren, Valerie and Holly Varga. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews.
