He was predeceased by : his father O. L. "Jack" Griffin. He is survived by : his mother Joy Reavis Griffin; his significant other Teresa Simons; his son Joel G. Hunter III (Petra); his grandchildren, Ariel Rose Hunter and Jason Felix Hunter; his siblings, Diana Decker (Gary), Allen Drew Hunter (Brenda), Robert W. Griffin (Patience) and John M. Griffin (Jewel); his aunt Margaret Sue Mitchell; and his uncles, William R. Reavis (Charlotte) and David R. Reavis (Susan). He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 27th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church (861 Middle St, Montevallo, AL 35115). A funeral service was held on Thursday, June 27th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
